Abundant Plumbing clears blocked drains in Georgetown for homes and small businesses. That covers sinks, tubs, showers, kitchen drains, bathroom drains and main sewer drains.
Homes near the square and the older streets often still run cast iron drain pipe. Cast iron roughens inside as it ages. The rough wall catches grease and paper until the pipe carries much less than it was built for.
Newer subdivision homes have smooth plastic drain lines that clog far less on their own. What they often have instead is long horizontal branches with very little fall. Solids move slowly in a flat run and settle out.
Cabling opens a path through the blockage and restores flow the same visit. On old cast iron the rough wall is still there afterwards, so the line closes up again. Jetting scours the wall instead, and a jetted cast iron line stays open longer.
On a drain that keeps blocking we run a sewer camera inspection first. If the camera shows separated joints, roots or a section holding water, the fix is sewer line repair rather than another clearing.

Cabling is faster and cheaper and it gets the water moving again the same visit. On a smooth plastic line in a newer home that is usually all a clog needs.
On old cast iron it is a short-term fix. The cable makes a hole through the buildup and leaves the rough pipe wall behind it. Jetting takes the buildup off the wall, so the line stays open longer.
The blockage was punched through, not removed. The buildup lining the pipe is still there and closes back up. A drain that re-clogs on a predictable cycle has a pipe problem, not a clog problem.
It depends on the condition of the pipe, which is why we camera it first. Sound cast iron with heavy scale jets well. Cast iron already corroded through at the bottom does not.
New homes clog for different reasons than old ones. Usually it is a drain branch run long and flat with too little fall, or construction debris left in the line. Both show on a camera.
Not really. Scale builds where water is heated and sits, so it affects water heaters, aerators and valves. An open drain carrying wastewater is a different problem.
We would rather you did not, especially on old cast iron. Caustic openers generate heat and sit against the pipe when they cannot get past the blockage. They also make the line hazardous to open up afterwards.
